This page sets out how we produce our content: how bookmakers are tested, what we rate them on, where our figures come from, and what happens when we get something wrong.
Who writes for us
The site is written by Danny Graham, a UK punter who bets on domestic sport and has been reviewing bookmakers for several years. We do not publish guest posts, sponsored articles or content supplied by bookmakers.
How we test a bookmaker
Reviews are based on accounts we have used, not on marketing material. In practice that means:
- Opening a real account, including going through the identity checks a new customer goes through.
- Depositing our own money, so the experience is the same one you will have.
- Placing real bets, across more than one sport and more than one market type.
- Requesting withdrawals, which is where bookmakers differ most and where marketing tells you least.
- Using the app on a phone, because that is where most bets are now placed.
What we rate
- Odds and value: whether prices stand up against the market rather than on a handful of headline specials.
- App and site quality: speed, stability, how easy it is to find a market and place a bet in play.
- Withdrawal speed and reliability: what the bookmaker publishes, and what actually happens.
- Fairness of terms: wagering requirements, maximum payouts, offer exclusions and anything buried in the conditions.
- Market depth: whether a sport is properly covered or given a token section.
- Licensing and conduct: a current UK Gambling Commission licence is a minimum requirement, not a selling point.
- Customer service: how easy it is to reach a human, and whether that helps.
Where our figures come from
We use primary sources. A minimum deposit, a withdrawal time, an offer condition or a competition date comes from one of the following:
- The bookmaker’s own published pages, such as its payments, promotions or terms pages.
- Governing bodies and competition organisers, for anything to do with fixtures, formats or dates.
- The UK Gambling Commission, for licence status.
We do not take facts from other affiliate sites or comparison lists. Where a figure cannot be verified at source, we say on the page that it is unverified rather than repeating something we cannot stand behind. A gap stated honestly is more use to you than a number that might be wrong.
Independence
Affiliate relationships never influence our rankings or our scores. Rankings are decided on the criteria above. Bookmakers we have no arrangement with still appear when they deserve to, and bookmakers that pay well are left out when they are not good enough. Our affiliate disclosure explains the commercial side in full.
No bookmaker sees our content before it is published, and none has any right of approval over what we write.
Criticism and balance
Every review names at least one real fault. A page that lists only strengths is an advert, not a review. Where a bookmaker has been sanctioned, has poor withdrawal times, or has terms we think are unfair, we say so plainly, whatever the commercial relationship.
Keeping content current
Offers and payment methods change constantly. We review our main pages regularly and update them when something material changes, such as a payment method being withdrawn, a concession being altered or a competition format changing.
Reader reports are a real part of this. If you spot something out of date, tell us through the contact page and we will check it.
Corrections
- We fix errors as soon as we can once they are confirmed against a primary source.
- We do not quietly delete a mistake where it changed the substance of a recommendation.
- We would rather be told than leave something wrong on the site, including by the bookmaker concerned.
Responsible gambling in our content
We do not describe betting as a way to make money, we do not publish or sell systems, and we do not use urgency to push readers into an account. Every page carries an 18 plus reminder and a route to free, confidential support, and our responsible gambling page sets out the tools every UK licensed bookmaker must offer you.
